The AIC is specifically designed for outdoor enthusiasts that would like to master the skills necessary to become an MLI instructor or to work in the alpine environment. This five-day course encompasses the broad range of skills needed for expedition travel and climbing in alpine environments. Students that successfully complete the requirements of the course are awarded the Alpine Instructor Certification from MLI.

Venue: We will meet in Portland Oregon. On the first day of the course we will drive to trailhead and begin our expedition leading to a summit attempt.
How should I prepare?
The best way to train for this rigorous endeavor is to mimic the activities as best as you can. In this case, training with moderate weight to strengthen the core muscles. Grab a pack and climb hills or stairs. This will be a very intensive course, so be in excellent shape. Visit a local trainer for more specific training tips. Be careful not to overstress your body in your preparation. Proper rest, hydration and diet are very helpful to develop good health.
What is included?
Food, tents, stoves, fuel, ropes, climbing protection, textbooks and maps.
What is not included?
Students need to bring personal clothing and footwear, and all personal gear including; backpack, the 10 essentials, water purification drops, helmets, harnesses, ice axes etc. Students also must bring or submit proof of insurance on the first day of the course (many temporary insurance companies offer options).
