There is perhaps no better classroom than the wilderness to learn and develop the basics of excellent leadership. The challenges of everyday life are splendidly represented in the context of a MLI trip. Students will learn how to set and obtain realistic life goals, form strong community ethics and develop good decision-making skills. Students will have a whole new understanding of responsibility and initiative as they experience this life-changing curriculum.
Spiritual Development
The mountain-top experience is essential for the soul to be able to endure the daily valleys in life. An MLI course holistically challenges students to think outside the typical constraints of urban life and experience true spiritual renewal. The mighty spiritual leaders of history so often went to the mountains to reconnect with God. Students will experience daily spiritual connection time as well as the immersion in and awakening to the amazing artistry of God.
Skills Development
Learning how to thrive in the outdoor world is key to every MLI course. MLI instructors have a vast amount of knowledge, experience and ability to teach students the essential skills. Students will be taken through a curriculum that enables them to find deeper enjoyment in the outdoors, travel with greater safety and to minimize risk. Students will learn such basic skills as cooking and camping as well as roped travel, knots and safety.
Creation Care
As we move through some of the most spectacular places on earth, we are humbled by the fantastic art of creation. From the complexity of a flower, to the majesty of a peak you will be immersed in the fantastic and fragile environment of nature. As caretakers of this art, we believe in conservation and “walking softly” through these places. Responsibility is a core component to leadership, and responsibility to take care of God’s creation ensures that these wild places are preserved for others to share. All of our courses emphasize a curriculum of creation care that helps each of us recognize and become proficient at being a good steward of these fantastic places.
